Softball Recap: Torrington Triumphs

Torrington hadn't done well against Naugatuck recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Raiders walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Greyhounds. This was payback for the Raiders, who suffered a 2-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Sophia Pergola was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since April 6th. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Piper Battistoni, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Torrington has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Naugatuck, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Torrington will host St. Paul Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders will need to watch out since the Falcons have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups. As for Naugatuck, they will face off against Holy Cross at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
