Volleyball Recap: James Irwin Takes a Loss

James Irwin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 3-1 to the Fountain Valley Danes. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Jaguars of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

James Irwin started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 25-13, 25-16, 25-20.

Aurianna Crane paced James Irwin's offense, picking up seven kills. Crane got some help from Yadira Gomez and her seven assists. Dalia Gonzalez Banda controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Fountain Valley found their leader in sophomore Ainsley Joseph, who had 18 digs and three aces. Joseph is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 18 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

James Irwin's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Fountain Valley, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3.

James Irwin has already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Atlas Preparatory School on the 26th. As for Fountain Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against Florence on the 22nd.
