Softball Game Preview: Kossuth Aggies vs. Pine Grove Panthers

The Kossuth Aggies will take on the Pine Grove Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Monday, Kossuth made easy work of Ripley and carried off a 13-1 win.

Meanwhile, Pine Grove posted their biggest victory since March 21, 2024 on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hickory Flat a 19-0 shutout. The Panthers have beaten the Rebels the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rebels has come to flipping the script.

Memory Mauney made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caroline Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Lyndi Holloway was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Pine Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .839. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hickory Flat only posted an OBP of .250.

Kossuth took their win against Pine Grove in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 16-2. Will Kossuth repeat their success, or does Pine Grove have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
