Softball Recap: Naugatuck Greyhounds vs. Seymour Wildcats
Naugatuck extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 10-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Seymour Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 back in April.
Leah Chatfield put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Chatfield was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
As for Seymour, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.
On Seymour's side, Skylar Barton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Barton has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Julianna Raucci was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Naugatuck does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Seymour, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 19-0 win against Torrington on the 21st.
