Football Recap: Gateway Charter Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Gateway Charter had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They snuck past the Chaminade-Madonna Lions with a 12-6 win.

The critical scores for Gateway Charter came from Yaneila Roman Lopez and Maryah Maldonado.

Gateway Charter's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Jazmyn Johnson was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks herself.

Gateway Charter's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.4 points on average over those games. As for Chaminade-Madonna, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

Looking ahead, Gateway Charter will venture away from home to challenge Somerset Academy - Canyons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Griffins 8.5, the Cougars 5.8) so any points scored will be well earned. Chaminade-Madonna does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
