Basketball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Davenport's 14th in Last 17 Outings

Davenport had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-55 victory over the Floresville Tigers/Jaguars on Thursday. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Tigers/Jaguars are ranked 494th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Floresville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amariah Ruiz posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Jordin Johns, who put up 11 points and six assists.

Davenport has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 25-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points over those games. As for Floresville, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-14.

Looking ahead, Davenport will square off against La Feria at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Floresville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
