Softball Recap: Pioneer's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Pioneer dropped their record down to 14-10 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the West Central Trojans by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by just one run.

Katelynn Haynes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Madyson Shaffer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Addison Kennell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

As for West Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

On West Central's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Jalie Glasford gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits. Glasford has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sydney Mellon and Brooklynn Lattimore did most of the damage at the plate: Mellon went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Lattimore went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Pioneer didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-3 victory against North Judson-San Pierre on the 16th. As for West Central, they will head out on the road to challenge Kankakee Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
