Preview: San Benito Greyhounds vs. Miller Buccaneers

The San Benito Greyhounds will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Miller Buccaneers at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

San Benito scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Friday. They blew past Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 61-41. The victory was a breath of fresh air for San Benito as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Miller had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 68-39 victory over Corpus Christi Moody at home. Given Miller's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 679th, while Corpus Christi Moody is ranked 1424th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Corey Holmes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with three steals. The contest was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Silva , who scored 12 points.

San Benito's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8. As for Miller, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6.

San Benito was dealt a bruising 81-52 defeat at the hands of Miller when the teams last played back in December of 2022. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point San Benito was down 47-15.
