Volleyball Recap: Kamehameha Kapalama Takes Down Ranked Mid-Pacific Institute

Kamehameha Kapalama faced Mid-Pacific Institute in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Warriors walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Owls. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 3-1 victory back in September.

While Kamehameha Kapalama might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Mid-Pacific Institute scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22.

Leading Kamehameha Kapalama to victory were Kielekea Arellano and Shaye Teves. Arellano had 16 digs and four aces, while Teves had 26 assists and seven digs. The dominant performance also gave Arellano a new career-high in assists (two). Ayva-Ray Malepeai also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

When it comes to explaining why Mid-Pacific Institute lost, don't look at Mia Furoyama. Despite the final result, she had 24 digs and two assists. Furoyama is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Kamehameha Kapalama's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 31-9. As for Mid-Pacific Institute, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season.
