Photos: Amputee quarterback Jacob Rainey takes the field

After losing part of his leg just over a year ago, Jacob Rainey fights his way back to the home field of Woodberry Forest (Va.) on Friday.

It was a comeback that brought Woodberry Forest (Va.) coach Clinton Alexander to tears. And his team didn't even win.

Alexander along with a nation was inspired to witness the return of his quarterback Jacob Rainey, who wore a prosthetic right leg during a 28-19 loss to Benedictine (Richmond, Va.) on Friday.

Rainey had severed an artery last season during a preseason game last season, causing partial amputation of his right leg. His fight back to the team's home field Friday was nothing short of miraculous. He played a single series in the first quarter, led his team to a touchdown drive and was 1-for-1 for five yards.

According to the Charlottesville Daily Progress, Rainey wasn't hit during the one series, which was a good thing Alexander said.

“It made me cry,” he told the newspaper. “I still don’t believe it. He did such a nice job. For me, he was just exorcising the demons of what happened.

“I was scared to death (seeing him in the game). I don’t want to see anything else happen to him."

Here is a look at Rainey on game day.
