Four-star junior goes for game-high 29 points as Eagles avenge season-ending 2020 playoff defeat in Georgia playoffs.

Ohio State pledge Bruce Thornton scored 29 points and added eight assists Saturday as No. 15 Milton (Ga.) avenged a state semifinal loss from last season with a high octane 90-77 Peach State showdown victory over Wheeler (Marietta).

The four-star junior scored in a variety of ways while going for 17 of his game-high totals in the first half, lifting the Eagles (19-2) to their 17th straight win.

The 6-foot-2 junior guard knocked down four 3-pointers and a number of contested shots while absorbing contact around the basket.

Sophomore guard Kanaan Carlyle also had a big game with 25 points while knocking down a number of timely shots. He scored eight points in the fourth quarter and added five rebounds for the game.

Senior guard Broc Bidwell scored all of his 12 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer, giving the Eagles a 69-57 lead heading into the fourth. After taking a 50-45 lead during a frenzied first half, Milton methodically pulled away.

They needed a big performance down low from 6-5, 245-pound post Lebbeus Overton, last week named the national MaxPreps Sophomore Player of the Year in football. He showed a bruising presence with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

After starting the season 2-2, Milton defeated No. 24 Grayson (Loganville) 75-64 and hasn't lost since. The Eagles face a quality Cherokee squad on Tuesday.

Kaleb Washington had 22 points and Isaiah Collier 19 for Wheeler (16-4), which still has strong state title hopes after dropping down to Class AAAAAA prior to the season.
