New Trier has gone 6-1 against Prospect recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Trevians will host the Knights at 10:00 a.m. New Trier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
New Trier had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Marmion on Friday. The Trevians were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Cadets. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trevians considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Justice Hernandez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Trey Meyers and Mason Bloom did most of the damage at the plate: Meyers scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Bloom went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Meyers has posted over his last ten games. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiden Carpenter, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
New Trier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marmion only posted an OBP of .278.
Meanwhile, Prospect had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since May 3, 2024.
Jack Davis was excellent, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Ken Munao was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
New Trier has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Prospect, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2-1.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. New Trier hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Prospect struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Trier took their win against Prospect when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Trevians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
