John Carroll Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Somerset Academy Panthers.

Makayla Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Samantha Rychter was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
