Basketball Recap: Kokomo Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Marion wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Kokomo, they should've done a better job of containing Eliana Stewart. The Kokomo Wildkats came out on top against the Marion Giants by a score of 56-44 on Friday thanks in part to Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 rebounds. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 8.2 boards per game.

Another player making a difference was Satyra Scott, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Several Giants players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nyomi Hahn, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 21 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. That was a full 47.7% of Marion's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee Townsend, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Kokomo and bumps their season record up to 9-3. As for Marion, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Kokomo will be taking part in a tournament against Fort Wayne Wayne at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Kokomo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season. As for Marion, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Eastern at 1:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
