Basketball Recap: Richland Takes a Loss

Richland suffered their closest loss since December 11, 2023 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Veterans Memorial Patriots by a score of 55-53. While losing is never fun, the Royals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Patriots are ranked 161st).

Veterans Memorial got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dj Jordan out in front who posted 16 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Tyreiss Perry, who put up 11 points.

Richland's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Veterans Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.

Richland will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Grapevine at 7:00 p.m. on January 7th. As for Veterans Memorial, they are on the road again on Friday to play Smithson Valley at 1:00 p.m. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Smithson Valley has lost three straight at home , while Veterans Memorial has lost four on the road.
