Whitney hasn't had much luck against Oxford Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will square off against the Patriots at 3:15 p.m. Whitney has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Whitney is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since March 12, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Artesia by a score of 16-14. Even though they lost, the Wildcats' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.5 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Chiugo Anyama and Olachi Anyama did some serious damage despite the final result: Chiugo went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Olachi scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Olachi continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nikilynn Baptista, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Oxford Academy got the win against Glenn on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-1. Considering the Patriots have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Emily Ganguly was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Danelia Paniagua was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Shay Tiettmeyer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Whitney's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Oxford Academy, their record is now 13-3.
