Basketball Game Preview: Woodlawn vs. Morgan Park Mustangs

Woodlawn will face off against the Morgan Park Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Woodlawn has seven straight victories, Morgan Park has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

While Woodlawn didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 76-58 win over Corliss back in December of 2024. Given Woodlawn's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Corliss is ranked 638th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Morgan Park played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. 2025 welcomed they with an 86-61 loss courtesy of Metamora. The Mustangs were down 68-41 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Woodlawn's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points per game. As for Morgan Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Woodlawn and Morgan Park were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January of 2024, but Woodlawn came up empty-handed after a 55-54 loss. Can Woodlawn avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
