Basketball Game Preview: Willow Spring Storm vs. South Garner Titans

The Willow Spring Storm will face off against the South Garner Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Willow Spring's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches.

Willow Spring is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Garner just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 67-55 to the Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Trojans are ranked tenth).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Brady Williams, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 14 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Grant Overman was another key player, putting up eight points along with eight boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Willow Spring smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, South Garner came up short against Clayton on Tuesday and fell 62-52. The Titans have struggled against the Comets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

South Garner's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Willow Spring, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.

Willow Spring strolled past South Garner in their previous matchup on January 3rd by a score of 57-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Willow Spring since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
