Basketball Recap: Choctaw Central Beats Newton County for Their 13th Straight Victory

Choctaw Central waltzed into their matchup on Friday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They blew past the Newton County Cougars 63-31. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Cougars are ranked 55th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Choctaw Central pushed their record up to 24-2 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points over those games. As for Newton County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-8 record this season.

Choctaw Central and Newton County are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Choctaw Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Amory at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Choctaw Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 games. As for Newton County, they will be playing at home against Shannon at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
