Softball Recap: Wilbur Cross Governors vs. Lauralton Hall Crusaders
Wilbur Cross had lost six straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-14 to make it seven. They lost 14-2 to the Lauralton Hall Crusaders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-7 back in April.
As for Lauralton Hall, their win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-14. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
For Lauralton Hall's part, Kaley Hobbs made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Hobbs a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Lauralton Hall got a massive performance out of Lexi Grund, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Grund has posted since back in April of 2024. Ciara McAleese was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
Coming up, Wilbur Cross is taking a road trip to square off against Harding at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lauralton Hall, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against New Milford at 4:00 p.m.
