Basketball Recap: Golden Comes Up Short

On Monday, the Golden Demons were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-52 to the Columbine Rebels. While the Demons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rebels 10-6 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Golden still got an impressive performance from Leif Hansen, who went 8 for 15 en route to 18 points and six rebounds. Hansen's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Goodspeed, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Golden was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Cash Boykin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Columbine, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Boykin is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. Brody Burkhalter was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points and six boards.

Golden has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Columbine, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-7.

Golden and Columbine should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Golden (ranked 125th) will meet Littleton (ranked 272nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Columbine will challenge Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday up 169 places (79 vs. 248).
