Baseball Recap: Dixie Heights Takes a Loss

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Dixie Heights's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Beechwood Tigers on Tuesday. The Colonels were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Ian Meyers was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Oliver Linstruth was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases. Sean Mitchell also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Dixie Heights has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9-1 record this season. As for Beechwood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dixie Heights will square off against Simon Kenton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Beechwood, they will take on Bishop Brossart at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
