Softball Game Preview: Charleston Trojans vs. Altamont Indians

Charleston has gone 6-1 against Altamont recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Trojans will head out to face off against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Charleston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Charleston made easy work of Mahomet-Seymour and carried off a 13-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Lainie Keefer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Madisyn Watson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Altamont's offense. They fell 4-0 to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg on Monday. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Grace Lemke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Charleston is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Altamont, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Everything went Charleston's way against Altamont when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Charleston made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
