I Sunrise - Southeast recap October 1, 2013
Liberty was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in I Sunrise - Southeast. The Patriots beat Durango 54-0 earlier in the week.
Foothill was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Sierra Vista. The Falcons came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Liberty's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Newman threw for 300 and 4 touchdowns and Drew Hladek had 51 yards receiving. On the ground Brenan Adams contributed 112 yards. Deseon Mcquaig helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 59 yards.
He went 17-23 with 1 interception.
Hladek was the best receiver in the league this week as Rich Muraco's team defeated the Trailblazers. Hladek tallied 2 receptions for 51 yards. Mcquaig helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 59 yards.
The Patriots' Newman and Mcquaig have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Newman has thrown for 1,110 yards this season, while Mcquaig, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 19 catches for 379 yards. Joshua Brown from Eldorado leads the league in rushing with 269 yards.
The marquee game in I Sunrise - Southeast this week will be the clash between Coronado and Liberty. The Cougars enters the game ranked 17th in the state, while the Patriots ranks second.
Liberty took down Durango 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Newman ran for 72 yards in the win.
