Softball Recap: Yerington Wins Going Away Against Pershing County

Yerington hadn't done well against Pershing County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Mustangs. Considering the Lions have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Yerington got a great performance from Erika Landa as she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. What's more, Landa posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February.

At the plate, Karla Zarazua and Laney Triplett did most of the damage at the plate: Zarazua went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Triplett scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Yessenia Zarazua was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Yerington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .528 or higher in six consecutive games.

Yerington's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pershing County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-7.

Yerington has already played their next contest, an 8-7 defeat against Oasis Academy on the 1st. As for Pershing County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 5-2 win against Pyramid Lake on the 4th.
