Softball Recap: Royal Takes a Loss

Royal was the 3-0 winner over Westlake when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Royal fell 6-1 to Westlake on Tuesday. The Highlanders' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Julianna Galbraith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Royal saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skylar Gapol, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Mikaela Jones also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Royal's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Westlake, they moved to 5-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Royal didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 9-2 victory against Oak Park on the 20th. As for Westlake, they have also already played their next contest, a 9-1 win against Oxnard on the 22nd.
