Basketball Game Preview: Somerset Prep vs. Montverde Academy Eagles

Somerset Prep will be taking part in a tournament against the Montverde Academy Eagles at 7:10 p.m. on Friday. Somerset Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.7 points per game this season.

Somerset Prep picked up another tournament win on Monday. They came out on top against Milton by a score of 62-55. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Somerset Prep.

Somerset Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gabrielle King, who made all 6 shots she took for 17 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Stoker, who made all 5 shots she took to post 10 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Montverde Academy faced Miami Country Day in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. Montverde Academy wrapped up 2024 with a 62-45 win over Miami Country Day. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles who have now won three matches in a row.

Somerset Prep better keep an eye on Saniyah Hall. She was instrumental in Montverde Academy's win, putting up 24 points and seven rebounds. Hall's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Amaia Jackson was another key player, posting 13 points.

Somerset Prep's record now sits at 10-5. As for Montverde Academy, their record is now 10-1.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Somerset Prep hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 64.7 points per game. However, it's not like Montverde Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Somerset Prep might still be hurting after the 63-38 defeat they got from Montverde Academy in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Somerset Prep, Jaloni Cambridge (who almost dropped a triple-double on 11 points, ten boards, and nine assists) won't be suiting up this time.
