Football Recap: Leake Academy Skates Past Canton Academy with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leake Academy). They claimed a resounding 51-7 victory over the Canton Academy Panthers. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-7.

Leake Academy's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from George Wilcox, who threw for 326 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 16.3 yards per attempt. Wilcox has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Ryals Wilkerson was another key player, gaining 109 total yards and two touchdowns.

The win (which was Leake Academy's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.5 points on average over those games. As for Canton Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Coming up, Leake Academy will host Oak Hill Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Canton Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge North Delta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will be up against the Green Wave's rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
