Football Recap: Roswell Hornets vs. River Ridge Knights
With a playoff game on the line, Roswell rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the River Ridge Knights by a score of 41-31. That's more bragging rights for the Hornets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
It was another big night for Trey Smith, who threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 33 yards. 82 of Smith's passing yards were hauled in by Grant Cook.
Roswell's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. River Ridge's QB won't forget Kobby Sakyi-Prah anytime soon given he sacked him 3.5 times. Sakyi-Prah also set a new season high mark in total tackles with nine.
River Ridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ethan Spector, who threw for 358 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. Spector is becoming a predictor of River Ridge's success: when he posts at least 250 passing yards the team is 5-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Grant Hollier also helped out as he racked up 201 receiving yards.
Roswell is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.0 points per game. As for River Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Roswell will venture away from home to take on Langston Hughes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Langston Hughes is coming into the game with seven straight victories at home, so Roswell will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. River Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
