Basketball Recap: Columbus Triumphs

Columbus hadn't done well against Wapello recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Columbus Wildcats narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wapello Indians 54-51. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 62-57 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Columbus has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Wapello, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Columbus Wildcats take on the Pekin Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025. The timing is sure in Pekin's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Columbus has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. After both having extra time off, Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
