Softball Recap: Hurricane Takes Down Ranked Riverside

Hurricane faced Riverside in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Redskins came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 8-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-0 on April 10th.

Kate Justice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jaden Jones and Alexander Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Anderson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Jones has posted since back in March. Layla Hodges was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base.

Hurricane's win bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Riverside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-8.

Hurricane didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 1-0 loss against Cabell Midland on the 30th. As for Riverside, they will square off against Hoover at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
