Basketball Recap: Madison Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Brandeis

After losing to Brandeis the last time they met, Madison decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Madison Mavericks came out on top against the Brandeis Broncos by a score of 66-58 on Wednesday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Mavericks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 473rd, while the Broncos are ranked 199th).

Loss or not, Brandeis got some senior leadership from Sean Tisdall and Finley Montoya. Tisdall went 6 for 15 en route to 24 points, while Montoya posted 19 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That was a full 41.4% of Brandeis' points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Jaylin Baker was another key player, putting up five points.

Madison is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-18 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Brandeis, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-13 record this season.

Madison will head out to face off against LEE at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Considering LEE has lost five straight at home and Madison five straight on the road , this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum. As for Brandeis, they will challenge SA Roosevelt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Brandeis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season.
