Softball Recap: Huntington North Drops Season-High Score on Fort Wayne Wayne

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Huntington North walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Fort Wayne Wayne Generals on Monday. The Vikings' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Ava Geiger and Chey Catellier made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Geiger pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Catellier tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Geiger a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Geiger went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, while Catellier went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was Catellier's first of the season.

In other batting news, Huntington North got a massive performance out of Ellie Mendez, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Mendez has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lily Craig, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Huntington North always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win snapped Huntington North's losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 2-18 record. As for Fort Wayne Wayne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-16.
