Preview: Clarkson/Leigh Patriots vs. Stanton Mustangs
The Clarkson/Leigh Patriots will be playing at home against the Stanton Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Clarkson/Leigh suffered a tough 52-29 defeat at the hands of Pierce. Clarkson/Leigh has struggled against Pierce recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kyle Mcmullin, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Trey Steffensmeier was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Stanton's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They took a 53-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Winside.
Clarkson/Leigh's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Stanton, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-16.
Clarkson/Leigh was able to grind out a solid win over Stanton in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 53-42. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Stanton's Joe Butterfield, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Clarkson/Leigh to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
