El Capitan waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Merced Bears. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-0 back in March.

El Capitan had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17.

Tyler McCreary paced El Capitan's offense, picking up 24 kills. McCreary got some help from Thomas Hoffman and his 41 assists. Hoffman was also solid from the service line: he led the team with four aces.

El Capitan's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 29-11. As for Merced, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Capitan will host Golden Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Merced, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Los Banos at 5:30 p.m. The Bears are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
