Softball Game Preview: Thornton Academy Trojans vs. Scarborough Red Storm

Thornton Academy hasn't had much luck against Scarborough recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will square off against the Red Storm at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Biddeford hit Thornton Academy with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 9-8.

Lily Whitehurst made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Sienna Eldred, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Scarborough nor Cheverus made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Red Storm came up short against the Stags, falling 19-2. The loss continues a trend for the Red Storm in their meetings with the Stags: they've now lost three in a row.

Scarborough saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Giuiliana Giftos, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Thornton Academy's record is now 0-2. As for Scarborough, their record now sits at an identical 0-2.

Thornton Academy suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Scarborough in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
