Baseball Recap: Berthoud Wins Going Away Against Greeley Central

Berthoud won the last time they faced Greeley Central and things went their way on Monday too. The Spartans put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 12-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Trent Jacobs made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Gavin Kirk and Gage Slaby did most of the damage at the plate: Kirk went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Slaby went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Slaby is becoming a predictor of Berthoud's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Anderson Austin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Berthoud's record is now 8-9. As for Greeley Central, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berthoud will venture away from home to face off against Resurrection Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Greeley Central, they will head out to take on Fort Lupton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bluedevils have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
