Softball Preview: Bernalillo Spartans vs. Valley Vikings

The Bernalillo Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Valley Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Valley's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Bernalillo had not allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. Bernalillo never let Albuquerque Academy onto the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday.

Autumn Arriola made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Arriola has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive pitching appearances. Arriola was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kylee Dineyazzie and Neiva Montoya did most of the damage at the plate: Dineyazzie went 3-for-4 with four RBI, a run, and a double, while Montoya went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI. Meanwhile, Valley waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victor by a 7-0 margin over the Knights.

Bernalillo's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. As for Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

Everything went Bernalillo's way against Valley in their previous meeting back in April as Bernalillo made off with a 17-7 win.
