Volleyball Recap: Lopez Snags Eighth Victory in Last Ten Games

Lopez had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Weslaco East on Tuesday. The Lobos were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Wildcats. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lobos also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Lopez not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Weslaco East between 15 and 18 points across their sets. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-18.

Lopez got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jasmine Cortinas out in front who had 25 digs, 13 kills, and four aces. Cortinas is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had six or more in each of the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chalene Granado, who had 21 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Lopez was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last eight matchups.

Lopez has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Weslaco East, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-10.

Lopez wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Harlingen South on the 13th. As for Weslaco East, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Donna on the 13th.
