Softball Recap: Troy Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Troy came tearing into Friday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Whitney Wildcats get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Trojans' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.

Baylee Crawford looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Laney Setzer was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Melanie Zapata, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Troy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Troy's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Whitney, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Troy will take on rival McGregor at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 1.9, the Bulldogs 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Whitney is set to square off against their familiar foe West at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
