Baseball Recap: East Side Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for East Side, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. Everything went their way against the Newark Central Blue Devils on Wednesday as they made off with an 11-1 victory. Considering the Red Raiders' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Johansel Santana and Edwin Fajardo did most of the damage at the plate: Santana got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Fajardo went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those runs marked the first that Fajardo has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Joel Fernandez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

East Side's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Newark Central, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Side will challenge East Orange Campus at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Newark Central, they will square off against Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
