Softball Recap: Belleville West Wins Going Away Against Alton

Belleville West came out on top against Alton on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Maroons blew past the Redbirds 8-2. The win continues a trend for the Maroons in their matchups with the Redbirds: they've now won six in a row.

Ellaina Jenkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella Weaver, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Charli Coppernoll, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Belleville West's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Alton, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Belleville West didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-3 loss against Mascoutah on the 18th. As for Alton, they will head out to square off against East St. Louis at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
