The Flat Rock Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Carlson Marauders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Flat Rock is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Flat Rock barely beat Grosse Ile the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rams put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 11-1 victory on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.
Flat Rock got a great performance from Jayden Yancy as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Yancy has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brendan Smouthers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Godfrey, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Flat Rock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Carlson suffered their biggest loss since May 22, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Trenton, falling 6-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Marauders were not able to get on the board.
Carlson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Krolak, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Flat Rock's record is now 6-2. As for Carlson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Flat Rock has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Carlson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Flat Rock might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from Carlson when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
