Basketball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends South Guilford Homeschool's Winning Streak

South Guilford HomeSchool and South Wake squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but South Guilford HomeSchool had to settle for second. They fell to the South Wake Sabres 38-32. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Sabres are ranked 31st).

South Guilford HomeSchool's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isa Bosch, who posted 11 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Bullins, who put up nine points and seven rebounds.

It was another big night for Rebekah Hartzell, who went 5-for-10 en route to 22 points along with seven boards and four steals for South Wake. The game was Hartzell's third in a row with at least 22 points. Another player making a difference was Emma Crissman, who scored nine points and five rebounds.

The defeat snapped South Guilford HomeSchool's winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 31-4 record. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points over those games. As for South Wake, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 30-2.

Looking ahead, South Guilford HomeSchool will be taking part in a tournament against Spirit HomeSchool at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. As for South Wake, they will take on Coastal HomeSchool in a tournament on Monday. South Wake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62 points per game this season.
