Basketball Recap: Franklin Piles Up the Points Against Coronado

Franklin won the last time they faced Coronado and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Franklin Cougars blew past the Coronado Thunderbirds 66-31. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 23 points or more this season.

Franklin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Janelle Lugo, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Those 13 points gave Lugo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Balsiger, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Franklin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 25 consecutive matchups.

Franklin is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Coronado, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-18.

Franklin will face off against Montwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Franklin's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. As for Coronado, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pebble Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pebble Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season.
