Softball Recap: Jay Mustangs vs. South San Antonio Bobcats

Jay had lost six straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 6-14-1 to make it seven. They lost 12-0 to the South San Antonio Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in March.

As for South San Antonio, the win (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 21-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.

For South San Antonio's part, Lauren Perez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Perez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alexa Torres was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anastacia Chavez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Jay will face off against rival MacArthur at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, South San Antonio is set to take on their familiar foe Southside at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
