Football Game Preview: Silver Lake Mustangs vs. Meridian Mustangs

Two dominant backs in Jaxon Tenbensel and Jayton Jones are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. Silver Lake will be playing at home against Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Silver Lake is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Red Cloud on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Mustangs took a blow against the Warriors, falling 67-37. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Meridian). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-6 victory over Harvard. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-0.

Silver Lake better keep an eye on Maddox Haake. He was instrumental in Meridian's win, picking up 105 receiving yards and two scores, while also punching in one touchdown on the ground. Haake was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 69 yards. Another player making a difference was Kyan Sones, who picked up 44 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Meridian proved: they limited Harvard to a paltry zero yards per carry. The team can thank Darius Suarez for the heroic effort on defense: he. Meridian's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.6.

The win made it two in a row for Meridian and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 18 points in those games. As for Silver Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
