Baseball Recap: James Monroe Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

James Monroe won against Westside on Monday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Mavericks beat the Greenbrier East Spartans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-6. Winning may never get old, but the Mavericks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Kadyn Hines made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of James Monroe's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 9-11 when he doesn't). Hines was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Levi Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brycen Parker, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

James Monroe lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

James Monroe's record is now 11-12. As for Greenbrier East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season.

James Monroe will welcome Summit Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Greenbrier East, they are taking a road trip to face off against Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
