Softball Game Preview: Taft Wildcats vs. Templeton Eagles

The Taft Wildcats will take on the Templeton Eagles in a tournament on Saturday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Taft took on Wasco on Thursday. The Wildcats lost 10-2 to the Tigers. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Templeton won against Paso Robles on Tuesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over Atascadero. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.

Bailey Fiorenza made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Reese Takigawa was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Grace Morris, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Templeton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Templeton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Taft, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
