Volleyball Recap: Milpitas Extends Winning Streak to Four

Milpitas hadn't done well against King's Academy recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Trojans blew past the Knights 3-0. This was payback for the Trojans, who suffered a 2-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Milpitas' got stronger as the match went on, holding King's Academy to fewer and fewer points set over set. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 25-20, 25-11.

Julia Grigorescu paced Milpitas' offense, picking up ten kills. Grigorescu were helped by Varadha Biju and Ashley Chen, who contributed 18 assists each. Finally, Natasha Lacuzong kept Milpitas' defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shuwen Jin, who had 14 digs. Jin is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Michaela Wu, who had eight digs.

The win was the fourth in a row for Milpitas, bringing their record up to 11-4. As for King's Academy, with the defeat, they broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 8-5.

Milpitas has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Homestead on the 29th. As for King's Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Eastside College Prep on the 30th.
